"Hunger Games" Vs "Bridesmaids", Both with 8 MTV Movie Awards Nominations

Two films, "The Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids," will fight for the upcoming MTV Movie Awards as each landed eight equal nominations on Tuesday to edge out "The Twilight Saga," which only had two nominations.

The post-apocalyptic action film "The Hunger Games," which earned $600 million in ticket sales, earned nominations for Movie of the Year and Best Cast.  Landing in the best actress, actor and breakthrough performance categories respectively are Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.

Not so far behind, female-led comedy "Bridesmaids" earned nominations for Best Cast and Movie of the Year awards, too, while the film's writer and star Kristen Wiig scored Best Actress and Best Comedic Performance nominations.

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," "The Help," and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1," are also competing with "Hunger Games" and "Bridesmaids" in the Best Movie race.

The MTV Movie Awards, which this year takes place in Los Angeles on June 3, are among the youth-oriented cable TV channel's most-watched programs, serving as a launch pad for many of Hollywood's movie summer blockbuster films aimed mostly at young audiences.

Unlike film awards from critics groups and industry, the MTV show offers cheeky categories like Best Kiss, which includes “Twilight Saga” and “Hunger Games” this year and Best Fight, which this year includes nominees from "21 Jump Street," "Harry Potter," "The Hunger Games," "Warrior," and "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol."

New categories for 2012 include Best Music, Best on-screen Dirtbag, Best Movie Cast and Gut-wrenching performance, which features nominations from "21 Jump Street," "Bridesmaids," "Drive," "The Help" and "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol."
