New Test Increases Hopes in Fighting HIV/AIDS

The development of a new test gives the health workers and organizations hopes in detecting stand preventing HIV/AIDS from spreading. The rate of HIV infection can now be measured easily and cheaply.

The test was developed by U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention to measure the incidence of HIV. It was known as “Limiting Antigen Avidity Enzyme Immunoassay”. This particular test can detect if a person is infected with the virus within the previous 141 days or earlier.

It is the reason why it is very important to those who need to know the incidence and prevalence of the disease. It also helps to determine if a particular prevention program is effective.

The test was referred to as “major development that will help us better evaluate and improve our prevention efforts” by Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Lots of health workers are hoping that this test, together with other test and drugs, can reduce the incidence of HIV/AIDS.

Dr. Bharat Parekh explained that the test measures how tightly bonded the HIV virus was to the antibody. The binding is weaker when a person was initially infected and becomes stronger after some time.

Doctors are hoping that they can use this test to early diagnose their potential patients.
