Anne Hathaway’s New Hair Cut: “I Looked Like My Gay Brother”
Critics are already bustling about the much-anticipated movie musical Les Miserables, out next month, but there's another kind of buzz associated with the film as well - Anne Hathaway's hairstyle.
Hathaway, who plays the role of a disease-stricken, Fantine, in the Tom Hopper-directed drama, shaved her formerly long brunette locks into a uneven buzz cut for the role. She definitely looks the part, but she also looks a little like someone else -- her older brother, Michael.
"When I eventually looked in the mirror I just thought I looked like my gay brother," the 30-year-old actress told the audience at a screening of the film on Friday, Nov. 23, in New York City.
The Oscar nominee for 2008's Rachel Getting Married went to other extremes for the movie, too. She famously lost 25 pounds off her already-thin frame to get into character as the dying, tuberculosis-afflicted prostitute.
"I had to be obsessive about it the idea was to look near death," Hathaway revealed in the December issue of Vogue, explaining how she ate nothing but two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste per day for two weeks to drop the last 15 pounds. "Looking back on the whole experience -- and I don't judge it in any way -- it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway."
The newlywed, as she married Adam Schulman in September, is in good company as a member of the star-studded cast of the movie adaptation of the Broadway epic. The film also features Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Helena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen.
