Besse Cooper, Oldest Woman In The World Dies

Besse Cooper, who was declared the oldest woman alive by the Guinness World Records died this Wednesday.

Her son, Sidney Cooper, was by her side and said she started having trouble breathing and was put on oxygen in her room. He also said Besse Cooper died peacefully.

Besse Cooper was twice awarded the title of oldest woman alive. Once in January, but after a Brazilian women was found to be 48 days older than her, her title was stripped away. She was given back that tile in June when the Brazilian woman passed away.

Besse Cooper was a former teacher who lived just outside Atlanta, Georgia. She lived through three centuries and was alive to see some fantastical historical events like World War I, World War II, The Great Depression to name a few.

She was married to Luther Cooper who died at the age of 68. She is survived by her four children, two boys and two girls.A bridge was named after her in the town of Between where she was a teacher.As of August 2012, the bridge in the village of Between is named Besse Brown Cooper Bridge.

Besse Cooper was one of the ten oldest people ever recorded and the last person to be alive from the year 1896.
