The latest musical adaptation of “Les Miserables” by Tom Hooper earned a close $18.2 million on Christmas Day alone.

This result makes "Les Miserables" the fourth highest earner on Christmas day of all time and the second highest debut in history.

Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained” didn't fall short and delivered big time. The bloody, brutal homage to the Spaghetti Westerns of old made a big impact on Christmas day.

It earned an estimated $15 million, making “Django Unchained” the fifth highest earner on Christmas day, and the third biggest debut of all times.

Only four other movies are in front of these two movies, they are “Sherlock Holmes”, “Avatar” and “Meet the Fockers” out of which only “Sherlock Holmes” was the only one to really open on Christmas day.

With both “Django Unchained” and “Les Miserables” hitting big at the box office very early, 2012 wraps up as one of the best years in a long time with $10.8 billion in revenue.Another Christmas Day opening that earned an important sum of money is Billy Crystal’s comedy “Parental Guidance”.The comedy earned an estimated $6.5 million.

Other than “Les Miserables” and “Django Unchained” the other constant big earner this period is the much anticipated “The Hobbit” that has earned a staggering 168 million dollars in just a few short weeks since its release.
