Bill O’Brien To Continue Coaching At Penn State
Penn State will still have the services of Bill O’Brien in the next season, O’ Brien confirmed recently.
Sources have indicated that four NFL teams had shown their interest in getting the services of the Penn State coach. The Cleveland Browns reportedly interviewed O’Brien recently. O’ Brien was also included in the short list of the Philadelphia Eagles.
The coach revealed that he made a commitment to the players and he is not going to leave after one year. O’ Brien had indicated earlier that he will stay with Penn State after giving the program of the school a new lease of life.
In addition to Cleveland and Philadelphia, the San Diego Chargers and Arizona Cardinals were reportedly also interested in O’Brien. Among the highlights in first season of O’Brien at Penn State was being awarded the Big Ten Coach of the Year.
According to Joe Linta, the agent of O’Brien, the emotional attachment is too strong for him to leave his job. He reportedly asked the commitment of the kids and he received it. He could not leave them after the commitment that the kids gave him.
The teams that showed their interest on O’Brien were reportedly informed through a third-party representative that O’Brien was informed that the scandal involving Jerry Sandusky was not a concern of the NCAA when he accepted the job at Penn State.
However, the information was proven to be faulty since a four-year bowl ban was imposed on Penn State along with scholarship reductions. Despite this, O’Brien will reportedly not leave Penn State for a simple NFL job.
