Adele Tops Sales Charts For A Second Year
British pop singer Adele impresses not just through her voice and original songs, but also through the mind-boggling numbers her latest album has sold in since it came out in 2011.
“21”, Adele’s second album appeared on the Billboard 200 chart on March 21st, 2011 and has since remained in the top 40.
The 4.41 million copies sold this year made “21” the most bought album of 2012. The performance lies in the fact that the same album was the number one seller for 2011 also, with 5.82 million copies sold.
Adele has established a record, becoming the only album to be the best seller for two years in a row since Nielsen SoundScan started monitoring sales back in 1991.
Taylor Swift is the other big seller of 2012, with her album “Red” selling 3.11 million copies.
The third album of 2012 in terms of sales belongs to newcomers One Direction with their “Up All Night”.The fourth best sellers of 2012 were Mumford and Sons, the British folk rockers, who became the most listened to guitar band in the U.S. with their album, entitled “Babel”, being the only rock album in the top 10.
As far as the top selling digital song for 2012, Gotye got first place with “Somebody That I Used To Know”, a song that sold in a whopping 6.8 million copies.
Last year also marked a new high for the Adele as she had the opportunity to make the song for the Bond movie Skyfall.
