Lil Wayne freed from prison – reunite with family
Rapper Lil Wayne, born Dwayne Carter Jr., was released from Rikers Island jail in New York after serving an eight-month sentence for weapon possession for which he pleaded guilty in October 2009.
His lawyers, supporters and family are planning to hold a party welcoming him home in Miami.
Through his website weezythanxyou.com, the Grammy-award winning rapper said he coped well during his incarceration. “I was never scared, worried nor bothered by the situation,” he said.
Lil Wayne pleaded guilty to carrying a loaded, .40-caliber gun on his vehicle after a concert in New York.
While serving time, Lil Wayne released his newest album entitled “I Am Not a Human Being” which catapulted to the number 1 spot on the Billboard 200 in October. Fellow artists like Eminem referenced his plight in their own hit songs recently.
He spent some time in solitary confinement but had his sentence trimmed for overall good behavior. While inside prison he received messages from his fans who he gave thanks in a letter posted on Tuesday.
“I laughed with some of you, reasoned with some of you, and even cried with some of you,” the rapper wrote. “I never imagined how much impact my words and life can be.”
Lil Wayne’s representatives say that the rapper is eagerly waiting to reunite with his four kids and whole family, including his fellow artists at Cash Money Records.
After that he plans to resume recording and maybe release “Tha Carter IV” next year. A book about his experience in prison is also in the works.
