Baltimore Ravens Open Season On The Road
The NFL has a tradition where the Champions and Super Bowl winners, in this case the Baltimore Ravens, will open the season with a game in front of their fans on their home stadium.
Unfortunately for the Ravens and their fans, the tradition was broken this year as both the Ravens and the Orioles had a game scheduled at the same time. As the stadiums are in close proximity and actually share a parking lot, the logistical problems would have been insurmountable.
And as the Orioles wouldn't change their match date with the Chicago White Sox, the NFL and the MLB had come up with the only solution possible, respectively, that the fresh Super Bowl winners would play the first match of the season away.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said that while he is disappointed that the Ravens can’t play at home, he fully understands the technical difficulties in organizing two games at the same time, and that the only solution possible was for the Ravens to start their season with an away game. Their adversary in week 1 has not been announced as of yet.
He also added that the NFL would like to set up a Super Bowl celebration that night, even if the Baltimore Ravens aren't going to be present.
