Comedian Jonathan Winters Dies At 87

Jonathan Winters, the actor and comedian who starred in movies like “It’s Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World” and “The Loved One” died at the age of 87.

He passed away this Thursday of natural causes in his home in Montecito California.

He was one of Robin Williams’ greatest influences as his act was full of irreverent bits and non sequitur jokes. He was also known for his great ability to switch characters.

Robin Williams actually tweeted a message regarding Winters’ death saying “First he was my idol, then he was my mentor and amazing friend. I'll miss him huge. He was my Comedy Buddha. Long live the Buddha.”

While he didn’t have a breakout role he made memorable appearances on “The Tonight Show” in the 60’ and on the Dean Martin celebrity roasts.

Most famous for his comic roles like the ones in the “Mork & Mindy” TV show, he also showed his quality as an actor in some dramatic roles.

He starred in an episode of the “Twilight Zone” where he played a shark-like pool player and in “The Shadow” alongside Alex Baldwin where he played a police chief.

His wife Eileen Winters died in 2009. Jonathan Winters is survived by his two children and five grandchildren.
