Zach Randolph Regrets Poor Performance Against San Antonio
Zach Randolph was swarmed by the big men of San Antonio throughout the first game of the Western Conference finals. The leading scorer of the Memphis Grizzlies was limited to two points, which is a far cry from his 19.7 point average in the playoffs.
Following the loss of the Grizzlies to the Spurs, the big man apologized for it. However, Mike Conley, a point guard of Memphis, revealed that it was the best defense that Randolph has to deal with in a very long time. The team did not accept his apology since they felt that the whole team was responsible for the loss.
Tony Parker of San Antonio said the team was making it difficult for Randolph during the game. He is the best scorer of Memphis, and they knew he will not play the same way all the time.
Zach Randolph said that he will have to play better for the team, which also has to work better together. The strong physical game of Zach Randolph is essential to the success of Memphis. The team was able to dispose of the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round and Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round. Together with Marc Gasol, they are among the most effective big-men pairing in the league.
However, the depth of the bench of San Antonio may pose a problem for Memphis, which won over Oklahoma City that played without Russell Westbrook. The Grizzlies have to shift gears against the Spurs in the conference finals. Five San Antonio players scored in double figures and the team made 14 out of 29 three-point-shots in the game.
San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said they played good defense against Memphis as his team put in a notable defensive effort during the entire game. He added that Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph are considered as the league’s best high-low combination for this season.
