The Daily Show’s New Host John Oliver Has Great Debut
A lot of fans of The Daily Show were left very disappointed when the very charismatic Jon Stewart announced that he will take a three week leave of absence from the show to direct Maziar Bahari’s novel “Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival”.
Things seem to be going great for Stewart’s replacement as recent ratings showed that with John Oliver at the helm, the show is still pulling in great numbers.
Monday’s episode of the popular show managed to get an average of 1.5 million viewers with a 0.7 rating for adults 18 to 49. The numbers are in tone with the shows normal ratings and actually show a slight week to week increase in viewers. Seth Rogen was The Daily Show’s first guest with Oliver as host.
Numbers come to contradict the new host who jokingly said that he’ll be responsible for accentuating the normally smaller numbers that come in during summer, leading the show into a real “nosedive”.
Jon Stewart’s temporary departure was first announced this March as it marks the first time the popular host has taken a break from The Daily Show in the 14 years he’s been hosting it.
