“Independence Day” Sequel Date Announced
After almost two decades, one of the biggest blockbusters of all time, “Independence Day” will get its much deserved sequel. 20th Century Fox announced this Wednesday the alien action movie’s release date will be the 3rd of July, 2015.
Dean Devlin, one of the screenwriters on the first movie said in a recent interview that the sequel was delayed for years because he didn’t want to write a movie that didn’t make any type of sense other than financial. He said that it was important for the movie to have a good idea behind it.
He also added that a good concept was more important than the possible profits and that while it took more time than anyone would have thought they think the result is an organic sequel that will attract moviegoers through plot not only through name.
While Will Smith hasn’t confirmed yet if he will or will not take part in the sequel, his co-star Bill Paxton said that the new movie’s script is prepared for both scenarios. He also said that he likes what the new script has reserved for his character and that he is happy that he isn’t stuck in a “old-age home”.
While the “Independence Day” sequel is unsure of Will Smith, former director Roland Emmerich has confirmed he will be back to take the helm of the new movie.
