Research Shows Tall Women Are More Exposed To Cancer

Recent research suggests that tall women have a much bigger probability of developing cancer during middle age, especially skin, breast, ovaries, womb, and kidney cancer.

Apparently with every 4 inches in height women who have passed their menopause have a 13 percent higher risk of cancer. The same 4 inch height difference increased cancers like kidney, thyroid or blood, by a whopping 23 percent.

Cancers like melanoma, skin, breast, ovary, womb and colon were increased between 13 and 17 percent with the 4 inch height difference.

The study was published in the U.S. journal of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention and suggests that height has a bigger influence in increasing cancer risk than being overweight.

Doctor Geoffrey Kabat who was the lead researcher on the study said that his team was surprised by the number of cancers that are associated with height. He also said that it is astonishing that there are more cancers associated with height than with body mass.

The study was based on almost 21,000 participants aged 50 to 79 who had to deal with one or more invasive cancers in the past 12 years.

Dr Kabat said that more research will have to be made to exactly determine what genetic factors predispose tall women to cancer.
