Production Level of iPad Retina Display Similar To Original Model
According to iSuppli, the schedule of production of the display for the reported iPad Mini Retina is similar to the introduction of the original model of the smaller version of the iPad. The production levels of the high-resolution model of the smaller-sized iPad are similar to the original model of the device.
The mobile and emerging displays director of IHS iSuppli, Vinita Jakhanwal, indicated that the production level in the pipeline is similar to the fourth quarter of last year.
The original model of the iPad Mini was introduced last November.
The iPad Mini Retina will supposedly utilize a 7.9-inch display screen with a resolution of 2048 by 1536. This resolution is similar to the current iPad 4, which has a screen size of 9.7 inches. However, with the smaller screen size of the reported smaller-sized iPad, its pixel density is expected to increase. It will increase from the 263 PPI of the iPad 4 to around 324 PPI on the upcoming device.
The pixel density will be similar to the pixel density of the second-generation Google Nexus 7. The Google device has among the highest pixel density in the market with 323 PPI.
The image becomes sharper whenever the pixel density increases. The display screen of the Google Nexus 7 is highly-regarded among device reviewers.
The main supplier of the display for the iPad Mini Retina is expected to be LG Display. However, Sharp may also supply some of the displays for the reported device. Reports have also hinted at the possibility that Samsung may be among the suppliers of the display since manufacturers may not be able to meet the requirements for the upcoming device.
Some of the displays for the original version of the device are already supplied by AU Optronics. However, it remains uncertain if the company may provide a suitable volume of the display for the device.
Jakhanwal indicated that even as AU Optronics is providing some of the displays for the iPad Mini, it will be necessary for the company to enhance its technology to comply with the display requirements for the iPad Mini Retina.
