Oscar De La Hoya Admitted To Detox
Former boxer Oscar De La Hoya has voluntarily admitted himself in a treatment facility to help him battle his substance abuse. The ex-boxer issued a statement that said he did so of his own free will but failed to mention the facility.
The announcement is out just a couple of days before the big fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Canelo Alvarez, a fight that is promoted by De La Hoya’s company.
De La Hoya said in the statement that he will be unable to “cheer Canelo to victory” because he is battling substance abuse and has decided to submit himself by his own accord to a treatment facility.
Both Alvarez and one time rival Mayweather Jr said they wish him a speedy recovery. Canelo Alvarez said that he hopes De La Hoya will win his battle against substance abuse just like he will win against Mayweather.
His onetime rival and opponent back in 2007, Floyd Mayweather Jr. said that he wishes him well and that he hopes De La Hoya will pull through “like a champ”.
Oscar De La Hoya admitted that he had a problem with alcohol and drugs back in 2011, saying that he even attends Alcoholics Anonymous 6 days a week but that he sadly has slips that cost him a lot both physically and emotionally.
