3 Best Places To See The Rainforest

While rainforests can seem a bit scary to the novice traveler, they are fantastic natural wonders that harbor amazing animal and plant diversity. They can also be exciting and rewarding travel destinations providing, of course that you choose the right places to see.

El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico hosts the only tropical rainforest in the United States. It is located on the Sierra de Luquillo Mountains and spans an amazing 28,000 acres filled with diverse and unique ecosystems.

Being located in a mountainous area also means that it hosts both classic tall vegetation and smaller, highland elfin forests. Make sure to bring a rain coat though, as this Puerto Rican gem gets nearly 200 inches of rainfall per year.

Nouabal-Ndoki National Park in Congo

With a forest that covers 1,500 square miles this amazing African retreat is a safe haven for a huge range of animals from gorillas to antelope to even elephants. The best part for the explorers out there is that this huge forest still has undocumented, unexplored parts.

Tambopata National Reserve in Peru

With a huge 3.6 million acres, this truly magnificent rainforest is the home of more than 1,200 species of butterflies. The rainforest could have been destroyed by the possibility of gold mining, however, thanks to an increase in tourists, the locals have learned the importance of preserving their beautiful natural landscape.
