Rolaids Recall

Rolaids recall issued by Johnson & Johnson

Rolaids soft chews are being recalled by manufacturer Johnson & Johnson after it received multiple complaints from consumers of finding foreign material such as wood and metal in the antacid chews. The products covered by the recall are Rolaids Extra Strength Softchews, Rolaids Multi-Symptom plus Anti-Gas Softchews and Rolaids Extra Strength plus Gas Softchews. In a statement today, McNeil Consumer Healthcare, a division of J&J said there are no serious threats to health posed by the contamination but urged consumers to discard the said products. The unit said they have halted the production of the products until "corrective actions have been implemented."

It is the latest in a string of recalls that have hit J&J, the biggest maker of health products in the world who once prided itself of its high safety and quality control. At least 40 products have been recalled by the New Jersey-based company this year. The company recalled Tylenol Arthritis Pain formula in November last year because of a foul odor emitted by the product. The same odor prompted the recall of Motrin and Benadryl products in January. The FDA discovered bacteria in packages of Motrin, Zyrtec, Benadryl and Tylenol in April forcing J&J to issue another recall. The company also recalled Junior Strength Motrin Caplets and Children's Benadryl Allergy Fastmelt Tablets on November 15. The repeated recalls have been the subject of a series of Congressional hearings. In light of the latest Rolaids recall, incoming lawmakers have said that J&J will face future investigations regarding its product safety violations and how it handled the matter.
