Ed Reed Cuts Ties With Houston Texans
Ed Reed is a free agent after the Houston Texans have ended his contract and cut all ties with the veteran safety. Reed will receive $400,000 as the remainder of his salary. The player will earn a total of $5 million for the seven games played for the Houston Texans.
The veteran player is now in a less competitive point in his career and his form is rather lacking, at least it did in his short time spent in Texas. While Reed didn't speak about retiring, he might not have the chance to play for another NFL team with his inconsistent form being a major impediment in any future contract.
Speculation says that one of the teams he could wind up at is The New England Patriots. He and coach Bill Belichick have long been admirers of one another and with Steve Gregory injured, Reed’s experience could prove a true asset.
Another possible destination for the veteran safety could be the New York Jets. While no official contact has been made, coach Rex Ryan often chooses to work with players he collaborated with at the Ravens. With Antonio Allen lacking in coverage at times Reed just might be heading for New York.
The Dallas Cowboys are also a potential destination as Jeff Heath has had a tough time filling in for the injured J.J. Wilcox. Ed Reed’s experience could prove vital for the Cowboys; however, what he will do when Wilcox recovers is yet to be seen.
