HP Chromebook 11 Taken Out Of Store Shelves

All of the HP Chromebook 11 laptops were pulled out of store shelves by Best Buy and stored in secure warehouses recently. At the same time, the laptop was taken out of the online shelves of Amazon and HP. The web stores of Google also showed the same laptop taken out of their online shelves.

The sudden pullout revealed that there was an issue affecting the device. Apparently the micro-USB charger that was delivered together with the device was found to be defective. Some of the chargers were also damaged after they overheated while being used.

Google released a public relations document that explained the sudden pullout of the device from shelves of various physical and online retail stores.

The PR document indicated that HP and Google were suspending the sales of the HP Chromebook 11 following a number of reports from users that the charger delivered together with the device overheated when they were being used. This resulted to the damage in the charger. Google is reportedly collaborating with the Consumer Product Safety Commission to determine suitable corrective solutions to the issue. It will also release information and instructions as soon as possible.

The document also added that current users of the HP Chromebook 11 are advised not to use the original charger delivered together with the device. For the meantime, users may use a micro-USB charger listed with the Underwriters Laboratories while they continue to use their devices. The company also expressed their apology for the inconvenience experienced by the users of the device.

The defect on the device was worse than the defect discovered on one of the devices sold by Dell and may affect the first year of the Chrome OS devices offered by HP. Aside from the HP Chromebook 11, the company is also offering the HP Chromebook 14 in the market.
