Philadelphia Eagles Win As Foles Nears Record

Even as quarterback Nick Foles draws near another NFL record held by Peyton Manning, the offense of the Philadelphia Eagles stammered for the second straight game. It was the defense of the team that allowed them to win over the Arizona Cardinals at 24-21.

Foles had three touchdown passes, which brings his number to 19 for the season without any interceptions. Manning holds the record with 20 without any interceptions for the season.

However, the win of the Eagles was not secured until the fourth-down pass of Carson Palmer, the quarterback of the Cardinals, was knocked off by Bradley Fletcher of Philadelphia into the hands of Michael Floyd.

Foles said it was necessary to execute in the game and it was important for the team to score to help out their defense. The quarterback played well in the first half of the game as the Philadelphia Eagles led the game with 24-7. However, the Arizona Cardinals rallied and nearly won the game.

The Eagles are currently tied with the Dallas Cowboys in first place of the NFC East. However, Dallas holds the division breaker.

The Eagles were lucky on Sunday as two passes of Foles could have been intercepted easily. The first possible interception was avoided after the ball was knocked out of the hands of Patrick Peterson of the Cardinals by DeSean Jackson of the Eagles. The team had a number of botched plays, according to wide receiver Jason Avant. However, key defensive plays played a big part in getting the win.

The second potential interception was only nullified when the ref called Tyran Mathieu of the Cardinals for holding in the fourth quarter. It also gave a first down to the Philadelphia Eagles. Three turnovers were forced by Philadelphia as Palmer was continuously pressured by Brandon Graham and Trent Cole.

Cole said the offense gave the Philadelphia Eagles the lead and the defense went in to finish the game.
