Los Angeles Dodgers May Sign With Clayton Kershaw

Clayton Kershaw may yet become the best paid pitcher of the sport after managing to gain some of the most amazing numbers any young player has earned in the history of baseball.

Rumors say that the Los Angeles Dodgers are hoping to secure a contract extension by Friday, one that will make Kershaw’s contract the largest ever signed by a pitcher, dwarfing the $180 million contract that Justin Verlander has signed with the Tigers.

Kershaw’s contract could possibly close in on the giant $275 millions earned by Alex Rodriguez, even though a sum that high is unlikely to be agreed upon. According to unofficial sources, there has been talk of a $300 million “life-time” contract that would have meant Kershaw would play for the Dodgers for the following 12 years. However, the same source says that the both parties are more likely to settle on a $250 million sum.

This isn't the first time the two parties have been close to a deal with the player coming close to a $210 million, 7 year contract last August, however, after the Dodgers didn't seem 100% on board with the idea, the deal fell through.

The reason for the Dodgers hesitation might be Clayton Kershaw’s clause to become a free agent after five years if he chooses so.
