Matthew McConaughey Won’t Star In Second Season Of True Detective

The Academy Award winner for best actor Matthey McConaughey announced that he will not return for a second season of the acclaimed show True Detective. The actor announced his decision backstage at the 86th Academy Awards where he won the Oscar for his portrayal in the inspirational “Dallas Buyers Club”.

The show managed to gain quite a following with a premiere of 2.3 million viewers and some impressive critic reviews. McConaughey is one of the show’s main assets as his portrayal of a Louisiana detective is seen as a fantastic success. His co-star, Woodie Harelson has also received much praise for his role. McConaughey is also the executive producer of the detective show.

The actor said that the script was amazingly well written and as soon as he read the first episodes he knew he would star in it if he would be given the role of Rustin Cohle.

During a recent interview, McConaughey talked about the difference between working on the show and on the movie that earned him his Oscar. The actor said that True Detective was basically a six month movie, with one director, eight episodes and 450 pages of script which was quite a lot of effort. In contrast “Dallas Buyers Club” took only 25 days to shoot with just one camera and a small crew.
