New Version Of Microsoft Office For Mac To Be Released Within The Year

The latest version of the Microsoft Office for Mac is set to be released within the year, the Office products manager of the company revealed recently. Despite an update to allow it to be used on an Office 365 subscription the current version of the software falls behind the Windows version of the software.

The Mac business unit was absorbed into the business software unit of the company in 2010. However, it was completely closed later on, which put a halt to the development of the 2013 version of the software, said Thorsten Hübschen.

Hübschen revealed during the Hanover Cebit trade fair that development teams were working on Office application to create versions of the software for several platforms. Aside from the Microsoft Office for Mac, the company may produce versions for Android and iOS-powered tablets. The release of the Android SDK through the SharePoint Conference 2014 gave an indication that the company may go in this direction.

There was limited news on the software since last year. This came as the blog for the software was closed by the company.

Hübschen revealed that additional news will be released by the second quarter of the year. He revealed that discussions were made by the company with a good number of customers for the new software.

Windows will be maintained as the flagship user interface of the company. The other platforms will be similar to this version even as the company will provide unique features for each platform, Hübschen added.

A Microsoft representative indicated that work was being performed for the latest version of the software. Although no details about the schedule were revealed, the representative indicated that subscribers of Office 365 will automatically receive the next version of the Microsoft Office for Mac for free.
