Four Gunmen Attack Hotel In Afghanistan
A new act of terrorism hit the Afghani capital city Kabul as four armed men attacked a luxury hotel this Thursday. According to a representative of Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior all the gunmen were killed while General Mohammad Ayub Salangi confirmed to the media that all guests are safe.
According to Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid the terrorist group claimed the Serena Hotel attack as well as an earlier attack in Jalalabad. The move comes as the country’s first democratic elections since the 2001 U.S. led military intervention are about to take place on April 5th.
The Taliban announced for months that they will do anything in their power to disrupt the elections that will see the first democratic transfer of power in Afghanistan’s recent history as current President Hamid Karzai is constitutionally barred from running for a third term.
Violence began early morning in Jalalabad when a suicide bomber detonated a rigged car outside the city’s police station. As two more bombs exploded in the vicinity of the site, six gunmen attacked the police station. The violence ended with all terrorists and 10 police officers being killed. A student was also killed in the gun fire.
The attack on the Serena Hotel, one of the safest places in Afghanistan came as numerous international observers made it their home base in preparation for the country’s elections.
