NASCAR Sprint Race Postponed By Rain
Constant rain resulted to the postponement of the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Texas Motor Speedway. The Duck Commander 500 Sprint race was postponed until noon on Monday. Fox will broadcast the race when it resumes on Monday.
The Sprint Cup race has been interrupted for three times in seven races for the season. The Daytona 500 was also delayed by rain for over six hours as it finished just before midnight. Two disruptions also delayed the race at the Bristol Motor Speedway last month as the race finished at around 9:30 PM after a delay of around five hours.
Following the rain that started in the morning, NASCAR attempted to make the track dry for a number of hours. The Air Titan system was utilized. The system was anticipated to dry up the entire 1.5-mile oval within two hours using compressed air and vacuums.
However, the track took it longer to dry than what was initially anticipated due to the cold temperature and track weepers. Track weepers occur when water emerge into the surface of saturated asphalt. Following another shower in the evening, the effort in trying to dry the track was stopped.
Tony Stewart will be at pole position on Monday after missing fifteen races in the last season. It will be his first start since September 2012.
The race on Monday will be the first Sprint Cup to be held since the Daytona 500 in 2012. It will also be the first race to be postponed in Texas since the April 2010 race that was won by Denny Hamlin. Kyle Busch, the defending champion of the NASCAR event, will start on 29th position while six-time champion Jimmie Johnson will start at 16th position.
