One-Day Sale Sells Out Google Glass
The online search giant recently offered the Google Glass in the market for $1,500 without any special invitation from the company. The high-tech glasses were sold out within 24 hours. The entire inventory of the white “Cotton” model of the device were sold out a few hours it was made available in the market.
The sign-up page of Google for the device indicated that although there were no spots available for the Explorer Program, there may be some spots available in the future. Interested individuals were requested to fill up a sign-up form to receive the latest news about the device and get a notification when a spot will open that will allow them to acquire the device.
The Explorer version of the Google Glass was only available though a special invitation before it was openly offered in the market recently. This option is still being implemented by the company. Although the sale sold out all units of the device, interested buyers can still purchase the device through the invitation, according to a spokeswoman from Google.
The Explorer program was gradually expanded by Google as indicated through the recent one-day sale.
The sign-up page for the wearable device indicated that it may be necessary to leave the map in order to discover new places, which is the function of Glass Explorers. The page also indicates that Explorers make, tinker, create, and share using the Glass and its numbers are gradually expanding. The company is also looking into the different methods of increasing the number of Explorers in the program.
The online search giant is also working on producing a reasonably-priced consumer version of the Google Glass, which may be available in the market within this year.
