Consumers will now have the opportunity to check whether shops, restaurants, museums and similar establishments accept payments done using Bitcoins by visiting Yelp.

The reviews website already offers the location, business hours, user ratings, delivery service and other information for consumers to facilitate their purchases. However, consumers will have another piece of information they can use when they look for something to purchase, which is payments done using the virtual currency.

The announcement was made by the company recently. The announcement indicated that the website has listed whether Bitcoin payments are accepted by businesses. The information showing acceptance of the virtual currency is listed under the different forms of payment that businesses accept. The list already includes cash and credit cards.

Yelp revealed through a blog post that the company is continually working in making the business useful for both businesses and consumers. It added that one of the latest attributes it added was whether payments using Bitcoins are accepted by businesses.

The virtual currency has gone through numerous ups and downs in recent years, as its value has increased and decreased significantly. Regulators have also praised and criticized the virtual current, and trading exchanges have opened and closed. Despite this situation, Bitcoin payments have started to gain acceptance among a number of businesses.

Aside from the inclusion of the virtual currency on the listing of Yelp, its prevalence has started to increase. ATMs have started to emerge while some casinos have started to accept it as a form of payment. Bitcoins are also being sold through the UK and US websites of eBay.
