Al Qaeda Captures Iraq’s Second Biggest City

Al-Qaeda backed terrorist have managed to capture Iraq’s second largest city this Tuesday in one of the boldest attacks since NATO forces ended their mission in the country two years ago.

The attacks left countless dead and injured while extremists managed to free hundreds of prisoners as they destroyed several police stations, military bases and the city’s airport. Remaining soldiers surrendered their weapons and fled the northern city of Mosul while tens of thousands of Mosul natives were abandoning their homes to escape the murderous rampage.

Militants dressed in black masks and heavily armed with machine guns and rocket propelled grenades harboured the black flag on government institutions while liberated prisoners were running in their yellow jump suits through the streets wreaking havoc.

The most shocking aspect for government officials in Baghdad was the ease with which their soldiers ripped their uniforms and threw away their guns when fighting escalated, fleeing the city and thus making it an easy prey for the well-armed and well-disciplined terrorists.

The attackers were believed to be part of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, an Al-Qaeda backed group considered to be one of the most ruthless and violent terrorist groups active in the Middle East today.

This isn't their first attack on an Iraqi city as earlier this year they managed to capture the city of Fallujah with government and military forces being unable to stop their advances, let alone retake the city.
