Kindle Unlimited Launched By Amazon

The Kindle Unlimited monthly subscription service was launched by Amazon recently. The service allows users to borrow a good number of books at one time without any due dates.

The service offers around 600,000 Kindle titles along with a good number of Audible audio-books for $9.99 per month. The titles featuring the logo of the service will be available for users to borrow. The service also comes with a free Audible membership for three months, which increases the selection of audio-books to over 150,000 titles.

Any Kindle device or devices with the Kindle application of Amazon can be used in reading or listening to the books. The Kindle Unlimited service will allow Amazon to compete with e-book subscription services in the market.

Industry watchers speculated that the service was launched as a precursor to the July 25 release of the Fire smartphone. The soon-to-be-released smartphone will act as the gateway to the subscription and online shopping services of Amazon. This is aimed at trying to convert Fire owners into loyal clients of the company.

Among the titles that subscribers of the new service can access are the “Harry Potter” series, “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and "For Dummies" collection of e-books. Over 2,000 audio-books are also available for subscribers, including the "Hunger Games" trilogy, "Boardwalk Empire" and "Life of Pi."

Kindle exclusives may also be offered by Amazon for users of the service along with printed books that were initially accessible through a Kindle device. Kindle senior vice president Russ Grandinetti said the subscription will allow users to have a huge collection of e-books and audio-books to choose from. It also allows users to effortlessly switch from reading to listening to a book.

The Kindle Unlimited is not connected to the Prime membership service of Amazon and is available for a 30-day free trial.
