Manny Pacquiao Dominates Chris Algieri
Following the dominating performance of Manny Pacquiao against Chris Alegieri, the WBO welterweight champion called out Floyd Mayweather to make their fight happen. Pacquiao knocked down Algieri five times in the one-sided fight that resulted to a unanimous decision for the Filipino boxer.
Trainer Freddie Roach said anyone will always ask when the two great fighters will meet inside the ring. He added the best should go up against the best and the two are the best in the last three years. Promoter Bob Arum also said the fight should happen and everyone should work together in making it happen.
Algieri lost in all scorecards. He was passive at the start and was an easy target for the rapid combinations of Manny Pacquiao. Algieri’s promoter, Joe DeGuardia said he would have wanted Chris to settle down and fight Pacquiao. However, Algieri gave credit to the Filipino boxer in the fight, indicating that Pacquiao was able to overwhelm him. Algieri was not able to fully use his height and reach advantage since his head was low when he fought.
Speculations emerged indicating that the Long Island native was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the bout with the audience filled with lively Pacquiao fans.
Chris Algieri said he wanted to find good opportunities in the later rounds of the fight as the gap between their scores started to widen. He added that Pacquiao was careful and smart with his approach. Pacquiao did not provide him with much of an advantage. Algieri took the fight as a learning experience and it will not affect his confidence in his ability.
Roach expected the fight to be competitive. However, he said it was clear after the first thirty seconds of in the first round that Algieri already lost. He said Algieri should not have gone up against Manny Pacquiao.
