Mark Hamil Delights Fans In Star Wars Live Reading
Mark Hamil certainly pleased some fans this Thursday when he participated along with a host of other stars to a live reading of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, held at the Ace Hotel Theatre. Other participants included Aaron Paul, Jessica Alba and Ellen Page while the entire event was hosted by director Jason Reitman and was a part of the Film Independent’s Live Read festival.
Things weren’t business as usual for Hamil as his role was quite a bit different than the original Luke Skywalker. During the live performance, Hamil was cast as part of the dark side, reading the role of the Emperor as well as that of Obi-Wan Kenobi. His interpretation, although different earned him a standing ovation.
Aaron Paul played Hamil’s original role of Luke Skywalker while Jessica Alba played Princess Leia. Lando Calrissian’s part was read by Dennis Haysbert while the popular roles of Chewbacca and Darth Vader were interpreted by Rainn Wilson and J.K. Simmons.
The cast of actors also had an unusual note to it and even a comical one thanks to Stephen Merchant who read the role of C-3PO, and Kevin Pollak who read the part of Yoda. The oddest cast choice was Ellen Page who read the lines of Han Solo. While the choice was initially seen as odd, Page managed to pull off a brilliant performance in one of Harrison Ford’s defining roles.
