Death Of Mary Ellen Trainor Confirmed

Luscasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed recently that character actress Mary Ellen Trainor has passed away. Kennedy, a longtime friend of Trainor, said the actress passed away on May 20 at her home in Montecito, California. The actress was 62 when she passed away.

Trainor started in the film industry as an assistant on a number of movies including “1941,” the 1979 movie of Steven Spielberg. She married the writer of the movie, director Robert Zemeckis in 1980. The actress got her first break when she was cast as the kidnapped sister of the character of Kathleen Turner on “Romancing the Stone” by Zemeckis.

Aside from cameos on the movies of Zemeckis, including “Back to the Future” and Forrest Gump,” Trainor also starred in a number of the biggest movies in the 80s. She played the role of a police psychiatrist in the “Lethal Weapon” movie series as well as a TV reporter on “Die Hard.” She was also a part of the cast of “The Goonies” and “Ghostbusters II.”

In addition to her movie roles, Mary Ellen Trainor also had a number of TV appearances on “Roswell” and the short-lived TV series, “Relativity.”

Kennedy said she and Mare were friends since they became roommates in college. She added that Trainor also introduced her to Steven Spielberg, which started her career. Kennedy described Trainor as a “great actress, warm friend and generous spirit.”

Trainor and Zemeckis divorced in 2009 and have on child, Alex Zemeckis. A memorial service for the late Mary Ellen Trainor is scheduled to be held in Montecito on June 19.
