Microsoft Surface 4 Expected To Be Launched In October

Invitations for an event scheduled on October 6 in New York were sent out by Microsoft recently. The invitations indicated that the company is preparing to share news about Windows 10 devices. Industry watchers expect the Surface Pro 4 to be unveiled during the event.

Reports on the upcoming launch of the new Surface tablet initially emerged last May. Aside from the tablet offering of Microsoft, industry watchers are also anticipating the launch of a new Microsoft Band, the fitness band the company unveiled last year. Some industry watchers also expect the company to unveil new Lumia phones during the event.

The upcoming release of the iPad Pro in November provides Microsoft an opportunity to evaluate the new Surface Pro 4 against the latest Apple tablet. The Surface tablet is the flagship of tablets designed to replace PCs.

The iPad Pro was unveiled by Apple last week together with the Apple Pencil stylus and a keyboard. The company is hoping that its latest tablet offering will boost its tablet sales, which have gone down for six straight quarters. On the other hand, the Surface Pro 3 of Microsoft created an impact in the market following its launch a year ago. It was marketed as a replacement for the PC. While the Surface was declared as a billion-dollar industry by Microsoft in January, a number of companies have also released their own alternatives to work PCs.

Aside from providing features offered by fitness bands, the Microsoft Band is also designed to provide the best features of smartwatches. While software updates were continuously released to the wearable, industry watchers say it may require some enhancement on its performance and hardware design.

It is also possible for Microsoft to provide additional details for its augmented reality headset, the HoloLens. It is capable of projecting 3D images in front of the user and overlays these images on real-world environments. The device was demonstrated by Microsoft during the E3 press event in June showing how it can be used with Minecraft. No other details were released by the company on the possible launch of the Surface Pro 4 next month.
