Lindsay Lohan Goes to Jail, Posts Bail

Lindsay Lohan was sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Stephanie Sautner to 120 days in jail plus community service in connection to the necklace theft case she was facing.

But the "Mean Girls" star spent only hours in detention after her lawyer posted a $75,000 bail on her behalf on Friday. Lindsay Lohan was freed before 10 p.m., the sheriff department said.

Judge Sautner believed that the beleaguered actress intended to take the necklace worth $2,500 without paying for it but lowered the charge from felony grand theft to misdemeanor.

It was the fourth jail sentence for Lindsay Lohan, who often makes headlines these days not for her projects but because of run-ins with the law and alcohol abuse.

The 24-year old celebrity was sentenced to 500 hours of community service including part-time work at a local morgue and also at a women's shelter facility.

Lindsay Lohan was not emotional when she heard her sentence but her father Michael Lohan was clearly upset about the decision and left the courtroom quickly after her daughter was taken by authorities.

The prosecution led by Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers had four witnesses against Lindsay Lohan, including two police officers. Meyers said they will file an appeal because of abuse of discretion by the court.

At least two plea bargaining agreements were offered to Lohan to settle the suit but the "Freaky Friday" star rejected them both.

The case may impact the work of Lindsay Lohan for the upcoming film "Gotti: Three Generations" where she will play the wife of mafia don John Gotti Jr.
