West Wins 2016 NBA All Star Game

The 2016 NBA All Star Game in Toronto will be the final All Star Game appearance of Kobe Bryant, who was the focus of most stories during the event.

The game ended with the West winning over the East, 196-173. The game set a number of records for the most points for a single team and total combined score in an All Star Game. The West was led by Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City as he scored 31 points. Four other players scored at least 20 points for the team, including Steph Curry, Anthony Davis, James Harden and Kevin Durant.

Westbrook, who was named All-Star MVP, said the game was fun and he was grateful to the fans and people who voted for him to become a part of the starting lineup. He added he wanted to go into the game and enjoy himself.

Westbrook also said he finds it meaningful each time he becomes a part of history. He added he was thankful for being able to play basketball and he does not take it for granted.

Paul George of the Indiana Pacers scored a game-high 41 points, which is one point shy of the 1962 record of Wilt Chamberlain. George said the 2016 NBA All Star Game was special after everything he went through. He said being a part of the All Star game was special and he was thankful for being able to play after his injury that required rehabilitation.

The 2016 NBA All Star Game was filled with dunks and three-pointers as the game saw a new level of freedom when it came to offensive plays. Among the records set by the West was the most number of points in a quarter with 53 and at the half with 92. The team also set the most field goals at the half with 41. The combined first half score of the two teams also set an All Star Game record.

A video tribute honored Kobe Bryant before the opening tip. Bryant was introduced by Hall of Famer Magic Johnson. The fans started to chant “Ko-be!” as the 18-time All-Star thanked the support he received from the fans. He also said he was thrilled to be a part of the 2016 NBA All Star Game.

Bryant had 10 points in his last NBA All Star Game and is currently second in the All Star scoring list, which is led by Lebron James who accumulated a total of 291 points in 12 All-Star Game appearances. After the game, the NBA will now focus on the run of Golden State of reaching 73 regular season game victories and the last few games in the 20-year career of Bryant.

The atmosphere in the game felt like a regular season game rather than an exhibition game. DeMar DeRozan said the 2016 NBA All Star Game in Toronto gave everyone an idea on how Raptor players every single game. He added that it also shows how Toronto and the rest of Canada are in tune with basketball.
