Mel Gibson Rants Deemed Irrelevant in Case

Mel Gibson had mouthed sexist and racial slurs to his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva several months ago when they had a domestic dispute over the custody of their daughter. The tirade was recorded and was planned to be the basis for a domestic violence lawsuit filed by Ms. Grigorieva against Mr. Gibson.

But last week she dropped that case against the "Braveheart" star and on Thursday, her attorney said that Mel Gibson's rants will not be included as evidence for the separate child custody suit.

Attorney Daniel Horowitz told a judge that his client Ms. Grigorieva is no longer seeking a restraining order against Mel Gibson so the recordings were immaterial to the ongoing child custody case.

Horowitz responded because Gibson's lawyer Stephen Kolodny said that he had been seeking access to his client's recordings for over a year now to no avail.

Mel Gibson's rants were heard by police who eventually charged the "Passion of the Christ" director with misdemeanor violence battery for which he pleaded no contest and then was placed on probation. The recordings were first heard from RadarOnline.com but has never been heard in court.

"It should be noted that the sheriff's department did a thorough investigation of Ms. Grigorieva's laptop and turned over their findings to the district attorney, who concluded there was no evidence of any crime whatsoever by Ms. Grigorieva," a spokesman for the Russian musician said.

Academy Award-winning director Mel Gibson has also uttered anti-Semitic remarks during a DUI arrest . He later apologized. Mel Gibson's rants directed at her former girlfriend later returned him to infamy.
