EA’s Launches Social Game for Facebook

Electronic Art is releasing a new social game for Facebook that is built off its popular life simulation game, The Sims. The company presented the new social game at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, California.

If The Sims Social game is going to be popular as the typical Sims games on the personal computer, it will give popular social games on Facebook a run for their money. That includes the likes of Zynga’s Cityville and Farmville. The game will let players create their own Sim — a virtual individual - and lets them play along with other Sims built by their friends.

Playfish was bought by EA in 2009 for expanding social games but it seems that The Sims Social was built by the Sims team rather than EA’s new social gaming team. A specific date for the game to be available on Facebook was not yet revealed but it looked pretty far along judging by the demonstration.

The Sims franchise is so popular with more mainstream audiences than typical computer games. Players can control of individuals and families and decide how they their lives. Or, you know, anything more sinister than that. We won’t judge.
