Martavis Bryant Set To Enter Rehab
Martavis Bryant is set to enter rehabilitation and will undergo an evaluation for depression symptoms even as he is facing a possible one-year suspension after he violated the substance-abuse policy of the NFL.
One of the most dynamic wide receivers of the league was suspended for four games last year. He is currently appealing the suspension. However, his agent said his appeal is “a cry for help” and resulted from a number of missed drug tests. The agent of the Pittsburgh Steelers player, Brian Fettner, said they underestimated the issue and his issue is not a party issue. Fettner added that Bryant is dealing with depression and it is necessary for the player to deal with it.
Martavis Bryant caught 76 passes in 21 regular season games for 1,314 yards along with 14 touchdowns. He also caught 19 passes in three postseason games for 244 yards with two touchdowns. Bryant was challenged by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to become tougher prior to the playoffs. The wide receiver stepped up his game as he made one of the most impressive catches of the postseason. While the catch was considered a touchdown, an official later indicated that it should not have been ruled as touchdown.
If the appeal of Bryant is rejected, he would have to make an appeal to be reinstated after one calendar year.
Fettner said it will not be easy to earn back the trust of the people, but they have to work on getting healthy first. When Bryant was suspended last year, he worked with John Lucas, a former NBA player who is currently working as a substance-abuse counselor.
The player said he was able to reflect about himself and the mistake he made after he returned in October. Martavis Bryant said he wants to move forward and work on making himself a better man and football player.
