“A Good Day To Die Hard” Harshly Criticized And For Good Reason
The fifth installment of the world famous “Die Hard” franchise has left most critics and movie goers stunned with some going as far as considering “A Good Day to Die Hard” a parody.
Some of the issue that were brought up was John McClane’s inability to suffer damage or be killed regardless how dangerous the situation is. The thing that attracted so many people to the series and made John McClane such a lovable character was his regular guy, prone to make mistakes but with an incredible determination and resourcefulness type of character. The way he is portrayed in this last installment has nothing to do with the John McClane of old, it is however, a cartoonish version of a superhero.
The movie as a whole seems to be a pointless compilation of special effects and mass destruction, with heavily armed helicopters, explosions, car chases and every other 80’s action movie cliché.
The relationship between McClane and his son who is portrayed by Spartacus star Jai Courtney also seems uncomfortable, and the generic/evil/Russian bad guys add nothing to the movie.
The dialogue is cheesy, and the legendary “yippee-ki-yay” line has been done to death, offering nothing more but a few cringe moments and making "A Good Day to Die Hard" a movie that shouldn't be put together with its predecessors.
