Aborigine Quality of Life Gets Worse
Aborigine quality of life gets worse. The struggles of the Aborigines in Australia has become more challenging due to rising incidents of child abuse, health issues and legal matters such as imprisonment. The best quality of life has become very elusive to the Aborigines and the considerable gap between will less likely be eliminated. A commissioned annual report on the Productivity of Aborigines indicated that only 10 out of 45 key indicators for Productivity has been observed with drastic improvement while 17 key indicators including disease and prison rates have no improvement and worsened more.
Julia Gillard, Australian Prime Minister, admitted that more needs to be done despite continuous efforts by the government to make a real difference to all inhabitants in Australia. Every report gives us challenge to improve and to carefully look for areas to improve, Gillard uttered.
The report said that every Aboriginal child is 7 times more likely to be discriminated, abused and neglected compared to their counterparts, non-indigenous children in Australia. Prison rate of the Aborigine women increased to 59% in the last decade while 35% for their male counterpart. Aborigines, the original inhabitants of Australia, are considered the country's poorest minority with only 576,000 in population out of a 22 million inhabitants in the whole country. Life expectancy for male Aborigines is only 67 years old, 11.5 shorter than the average Australian male. For Aborigine women, life expectancy is only 73 years old, less than 10 years compared to the average Australian women's life expectancy at 83 years old.
