Airlines Invest In Airport Lounges
The newest trend when it comes to keeping an airline competitive seems to be chic and comfortable lounges, and most U.S. airlines aren't falling back when it comes to upgrading theirs as millions are being spent to improve or extend lounges all across the country.
Delta Air Lines made a big step in the right direction and opened a huge 24,000 square feet lounge out of which 2000 square feet make up an outdoor Sky Deck at JFK airport in New York.
United Airlines is also spending a lot of money this year trying to renovate most of their 49 locations. The Chicago club was recently finished and upgraded with a new bar, new furniture and more work stations.
Foreign airlines aren't falling behind and some, like Etihad Airlines and Virgin Atlantic are also investing big in their lounges.
One of the reasons behind the newly found popularity of the airport lounges is the longer waiting lines due to increased security measures. The idea is that gourmet meals, first class bars and a lot of entertainment alternatives will prove to be a decent trade-off for the extra time spent in airports.
While airport lounges are generally reserved for first or business class clients, others will have access to them based on their loyalty programs, or by purchasing a membership or a day pass.
