Airports Resume Operations After Hurricane Irene
New York - Thousands of flights were canceled and airports across the East Coast were closed for days after Hurricane Irene struck its way towards many states of the East Coast. But just after the Hurricane Irene left, New York area airports are now back in business and passengers may already go home after days of being stranded in New York City during the wrath of Hurricane Irene.
Airline companies however announced that it will take them days to make up for all the new flights of thousands stranded passengers. Two major airports, John F. Kennedy Int’l Airport in New York and Newark Liberty Int’l Airport, have resumed its business operation, receiving arriving flights as of 6am Monday while departing flights opened by noon after being closed since Saturday noon.
LaGuardia Airport also opened as of 7am to both incoming and departing flights. However, smaller airports in the New York area are still closed and awaits announcement before resuming its daily operations. Stewart Int’l Airport will be expected to open to incoming and outgoing flights by Tuesday. New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport won’t be open pending repair for damages it suffered after it was flooded during the storm. Int’l Airport in Philadelphia will also resume by Monday. Most of the Airlines servicing in Pennsylvania will resume flights by Monday afternoon.
