Aldon Smith Detained At LA International Airport

Aldon Smith, linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested recently at the Los Angeles International Airport after he hinted that he had a bomb with him. Sgt. Michael Fox of the LAPD said the athlete was booked on Sunday afternoon.

A statement issued by Trent Baalke, general manager of the 49ers, indicated that the team was disappointed about the incident involving Smith. However, the team did not issue any other statements since it was still a pending legal matter.

Karla Ortiz, LA police public information officer, revealed that the incident occurred when a person went through Terminal 1 screening and was randomly chosen for secondary screening. The person was later identified to be Smith.

Smith started to become aggressive and did not cooperate with the TSA agent. Ortiz added that Aldon Smith also commented that he possessed a bomb before he walked towards the gate area.

When the LA Airport Police intercepted him near the gate, Smith did not cooperate with them. He was later detained by the Airport Police. The incident was captured on video by a number of people present. The incident was the latest run-in of the player with the law. He pleaded not guilty to felony charges in November for illegally possessing an assault weapon.

Smith voluntarily entered an alcohol treatment center following his arrest for drunk driving, which made him miss five games during the season. It was the second time the player was arrested on drunk-driving charges since 2012.

Smith ended the season with the 49ers with 12 sacks along with 34 tackles despite being absent from a number of games. San Francisco lost the NFC Championship to Seattle, its division rival.

The latest run-in of Smith with the law may result to league discipline. The player was not suspended by the NFL after he was arrested in September. When Aldon Smith voluntarily entered into treatment played a significant role on avoiding suspension from the league.
