Amazon Kindle defective covers can be refunded

Amazon Inc. has decided it would refund buyers of defective Amazon Kindle covers after receiving many complaints that the cover prevents the e-reader to function properly. Most of the complaints were in an online forum about a cover selling for $34.99 which comes in seven colors. It fits the Wi-Fi version of the Amazon Kindle and weighs about 13.4 ounces (380 grams). In the forum, Amazon representatives said, "There have been some forum discussions regarding the non-lighted Kindle cover, and our engineering team is looking into this. Regardless, if anyone is having any problem with an Amazon-manufactured Kindle cover, please contact us at [email protected], and we will be pleased to replace it for free or accept a return for a full refund, no matter when the cover was purchased." Amazon said a "small number" of buyers had inquired about a refund but just how many covers were considered faulty was unclear.

Customers ranted online that the cover was causing their Amazon Kindle devices to lock up and freeze. The e-reader is the flagship consumer product of Amazon and the defective cover refunds and replacements come at a bad timing for the online retailer as the holiday shopping season gets into full swing. About 8 percent of the company's total revenue comes from the Amazon Kindle, Sandeep Aggarwal of Caris & Co. told Bloomberg. Sales of the device are not announced by Amazon. The Amazon Kindle Wi-Fi variant was launched in July. It featured a brighter screen, quicker response time and an impressive battery life lasting up to 30 days.
