“American Idol” Quickly Losing Mass Appeal?

American Idol’s Group Night on Thursday was transformed into a “drama streak” instead of the expected “singing competition.” The whole episode just focused on the drama of personality clashes, infighting, late night crying and more sorts of drama sensations.

Fortunately, the show’s director was just creative enough to offer enough “not-so-related” yet interesting distractions to keep its audience.

Amy Brumfield, the “tent girl” who lives in a tent in the woods in Tennessee, got sick. Brumfield was out most of the episodes because she was constantly experiencing flu-like symptoms, while at the same time affecting those who are always around her with almost the same cases.

Brumfield was able to join Alisha Bernhardt’s group who performed "Joy to the World" (not the Christmas carol, but the Three Dog Night version). Brumfield decided to leave the group afterwards.

Alisha Bernhardt, who is a cop, practically drove everyone away from her group after threatening to fight a fellow contestant, at one point.   Christian Lopez, one of the contestants, also got sick. There is no telling whether Brumfield was to blame.

Another contender who got sick was Symone Black, the one who fell off the stage during their rehearsal for Wednesday's "Idol" episode.  She is back from hospital with the good news that she has advanced to the next round awaiting her, but the bad news is that groups had already been formed. Fortunately, she was able to join a group quickly.  However, it seemed that the tough gets going in Black’s case as her biggest issue regarding her father, George Black, ensued.

All in all, the episode was not a successful one leaving the viewers to wait until next week to find out who is staying in the competition and who goes out.
