Analyst Expecting An iPhone With A Smaller Screen Next Year

It appears Apple may release an iPhone with a smaller screen again next year, according to Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities in a note to investors on Tuesday. The device will feature a 4-inch display screen and may be launched together with the iPhone 7. The smaller iPhone will have similar features of the iPhone 5S, which also features a 4-inch display screen.

While the upcoming iPhone with a smaller screen may go against the trend of large-display smartphones, it provides consumers an option if they prefer smaller devices or smartphones offered at reasonable prices.

Apple decided to offer iPhones with larger screens to reclaim its share of the market that went to Android smartphones with larger displays. The iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen while the iPhone 6 Plus featured a 5.5 inch screen. The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus also featured similarly-sized screens. The release of larger-screened iPhones became appealing to consumers looking for devices with larger screens.

Kuo also said there is still a demand for smaller-screened iPhones and mass production is expected to start in the first half of next year. Due to this, the new smartphone of Apple may be launched together with the next-generation iPhone, which normally happens in September.

The iPhone with a smaller screen may be a budget-friendly model. It may have a metal casing and will feature an A9 processor. The iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S plus use the same processor, which may be considered old technology by next year. The smaller device s not expected to feature the 3D touch technology currently used on the latest iPhone models. The response of the touch-sensitive display is determined by how hard the screen is pressed. For example, an app may be opened with a light touch on the screen while a number of commands may be available when the screen is touched harder.

While reports of the return of smaller-screened iPhones emerged over a year ago, these speculations were not given any serious consideration by industry watchers. No statements were released by Apple on the possibility that it will offer an iPhone with a smaller screen next year.
