Anderson Cooper Might Replace Matt Lauer On The “Today” Show
In rumors that have been circulating the entertainment field, Anderson Cooper is one of the newest names thrown around to replace Matt Lauer on the “Today” show.
The same rumors seem to diverge when it comes to Lauer reaction. While TMZ says that the current host is in favor of Cooper taking over, even suggesting they meet to better understand and facilitate the transition, other sources say that Cooper’s possible meet-up with NBC execs has made Lauer pretty mad.
NBC executives have confirmed that they have had talks with “talent both inside and outside of the network” but that the press shouldn't read more into this as talks are just explorative.
Current hosts Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie addressed the considerable amount of negative publicity they have received in recent months.
He said that they don’t like being constantly in the news and that they want to return to being the nation’s most watched morning program and least talked about.
Lauer also said in an interview earlier this year that he would be more than ready to quit his job as the face of the “Today” show if NBC executives considered that would help boost the ratings.
If Matt Lauer does get replaced by Anderson Cooper, NBC does seem to have a backup plan for him, considering him to replace Alex Trebek as the host of “Jeapordy” when he retires in 2016.
