Anti-Putin Protesters Form Human Barricade in Moscow

Thousands of Russians joined hands forming a human barricade around the city center in Moscow on Sunday to protest against the possibility that Vladimir Putin's returns as president in next week’s election.

The protesters stood side by side around the 10-mile Moscow Garden Ring Road despite of the gently falling snow.

Many of the protesters were wearing white ribbons that symbolize the biggest opposition protests since Putin earned power 12 years ago.

Some were chanting "Russia without Putin," while waving at cars which hooted back in support, making the mood of the activity more festive. Some were waving blown up condoms to mock Putin by saying that he mistook the ribbons they wore as contraceptives.

"There is no way that Putin can win honestly," said Yevgeniya Chirikova, a leading opposition campaigner. You see how many people are out here now. If we can prove that there is falsification in the presidential election, then there will be a very strong reaction from the people," she said.

Putin is just too confident to win the presidential election on March 4, thus returning to the position he once held from 2000 until 2008, after the release of a campaign describing him as a strong leader who oversaw an economic boom and rebuilt Russia as a powerful nation.

But the growing dissatisfaction among well-off voters brought about the protest. They protest focused on the political system dominated by one man, wherein there is widespread corruption and a lack of transparency.
