Apple Live Photos Receive Facebook Support
An announcement by the tech giant in September indicated that Apple Live Photos will be viewable through Facebook within the year. This revelation was confirmed recently as the social network started to offer support for the moving image format of Apple.
The feature is currently being tested by Facebook around the world with a limited number of owners of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. However, availability is expected to be expanded in 2016. This was revealed by a spokesperson from Facebook. Due to this Facebook users should not be surprised when some of the images they see on their News Feed start moving.
A TechCrunch report revealed that selected iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus users will have the opportunity to join the test and share their Apple Live Photos through Facebook using the iOS app of the company. These images can be viewed by anyone using an iOS 9 device.
The new feature offering of Apple was initially unveiled in September as among the best features of the latest models of the iPhone. Whenever an image is taken while the feature is enabled, a three-second video will be capture by the iOS device while the image is taken.
A description of Live Photo by Apple indicates that a 12-mehapixel image is the heart of the feature. Aside from the image, the moments prior and after the image is taken, movement and sound are also captured. Sascha Segan of PCMag said earlier that the idea of the feature is not new since a similar feature was also rolled out by HTC in 2013. However, the format of the Zoe feature was not supported by Instagram, Facebook and other major players. Segan added that Apple Live Photos is expected to take over the internet unlike its rival offered by HTC.
